ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a freelance artist, working in the mediums of acting for film and stage plus dance and writing for theatre. My movement process and written works come from my own life experience and stories encountered. From this base, I start with improvisation and carve my way to concrete material.
My perspective is shaped by my dual heritage as a second-generation Asian migrant and fifth-generation Pākehā in Aotearoa New Zealand. Raised in Aotearoa New Zealand within a community of 'third culture kids,' my work explores the dissonance between deep-seated religious and cultural pressures and everyday societal norms. With a background in dance and acting, I create and write narratives to map and explore the profound misunderstandings that occur when disparate worlds collide- ultimately aiming to dilute the invisible barriers with humour.
I speak Mandarin as my second language fluently and am passionate with experience in anti-trafficking work.
I am currently working towards several small projects and am seeking to connect with experienced producers and directors.
I am also available as an actor, dancer, writer, creator and assistant director....and also script doctor- I promise I can find holes in your script. Please reach out for a review of your work.
